What up salon fam?! This is my first post for the Indie Blue Salon blog, which I am extremely excited about. I can’t wait to share some knowledge with you guys!
So, for my first blog… Something I have been wanting to talk about for a while now is REALISTIC hair goals. I got a lot of really awesome feedback on this particular picture (thank you btw, it means a LOT to me).
This before and after is to show you just how light Lynzi already was before we did her balyage. She’s a natural blonde, AND she had lots of previous grown out highlights. So getting her to the level of blonde in the after picture, in one appointment, was not all that hard.
With all that being said… I wish that I was an actual student at Hogwarts, with a magical wand (kind of not a joke) and I could just take all my dark haired guests to this color in one appointment. Seriously, I wish I could because I love giving my guests their dream hair. BUT to keep the hair HEALTHY, it’s not always REALISTIC to think something like this can be achieved in one appointment, or at all. Especially if you don’t upgrade your color service to Olaplex or moisturizing treatments for maintenance.
To have a realistic, healthy hair goal for YOU is determined on multiple things. These points are what is most important to consider (in my professional opinion):
-How much maintenance are you okay with having/willing to pay for? Are you willing to take the time to have multiple appointments to get your hair to your desired color?
Color like this is amazing, but if you aren’t light haired naturally then the upkeep can get pricey and you may not want to have to be in the salon as often as you would need to be. Also, sometimes it takes multiple appointments to simply get to where you want to be, to get to where we are just maintaining the color.
-What is the integrity of your hair currently? Are you willing to upgrade your services to include Olaplex and moisturizing treatments?
If you already have damaged hair, going this blonde could compromise the health of your hair. And if you’re my guest, I personally would never want you leaving with damaged hair. If you’re willing to upgrade your appointments (Olaplex and/or moisturizing treatments) to keep your hair in good condition, it’s a safer transition each time you come in, allowing us to get your hair lighter in a safer way.
-What is your skin tone, eye color, etc?
While this level/tone of blonde may be beautiful on one person, it may not look as great on someone else. It’s important to find a color that works within the range of tones that fit YOU.
As a hairstylist it’s my job to bring these topics to the table and lay it all out for you. I always have a consultation before any color on my guests so that we can both be on the same page. This way you can have beautiful, healthy hair that not only looks good on YOU, but is something that you LOVE and can maintain.
